My name is Erin Schwant and I am so delighted to be working in my dream job as the director of The Early Education Center here at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. My love of children, curiosity about their development and passion for the families that nurture them has been the driving force of nearly all of my major life choices. I graduated from St. Paul’s School in 1998 and went on to graduate from Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida with a Psychology degree that emphasized child development. After college I obtained a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson, Mississippi. Following graduate school I remained in Jackson and maintained a private practice where I saw individuals and families and provided play therapy for children. In December of 2005 I married my husband, Troy and in the spring of 2007 we had our first child, Jack. We moved home to Mobile one year later and went on to have three boys in less than four years. As I focused on building our growing family my awareness of the needs of children and their families, particularly during the little years, took on a whole new meaning.
For many years I entertained the idea of opening a family centered child development center. As my boys grew my hopes for the education they would receive became one of my primary thoughts. My belief that the school environment should be developmentally sensitive and meet the needs of the whole family fueled my passion and moved me from entertaining the idea to wholeheartedly pursuing it. I am still blown away by God’s provision of this very perfect job in the place that provided me with such an excellent foundation both spiritually and academically. My dreams are entangled with my memories here and the hopes and I have for the children of The Early Education Center are no less than the ones I have for my very own children.
We at the Early Education Center know that trusting us with your children is one of the highest honors you could ever place on a person or school. We will do all that we can to honor that gift and to provide you and your children with a safe, warm and engaging preschool experience.
